FORUM THEME & KEY TOPICS

The evidence that engaging people in policy and decision-making processes lead to more efficient and effective public service delivery in health, education, infrastructure, and other areas is mounting. Engaging diverse views and perspectives of stakeholders, communities and the public generates more environmentally, economically and socially-sustainable decisions. For this reason, public participation and stakeholder engagement are increasingly seen as an integral part of the day-to-day work of government business.

Public Participation and Stakeholder Engagement can provide a valuable foundation for providing development actors, the private and public sector the necessary tools and techniques to engage better, and so promote a more balanced and equitable development approach.

Insights from the collaboration between UNESCAP and IAP2 International will be shared as a contribution to SDG implementation efforts.

Important avenues for exploring how and what tools may be used to achieve these ambitious goals will be opened through this forum and the discussion between development partners.
